You are on Your Own if You Grant Loans to Wike - APC Warns Banks

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has warned banks not to grant further loans to the state Governor, Nyesom Wike. But Wike has waved off the stance of the party, saying there are procedures for accessing funds and that the APC officials were jobless.

The state Chairman of APC, Dr. Davies Ikanya, while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday evening, said banks that ignored the warning were working against the interest of the state. Ikanya alleged that Wike had, within five months of his administration, squandered an initial N30 billion bank loan on road projects which he said were not commensurate with the amount spent.

He also alleged that Wike was planning to take another N10 billion loan, saying the governor had no cause to go for such a fresh loan, his election having being overturned at the election petitions tribunal.

“I am not going to mention names but these banks but they know themselves. Whose interest are they protecting by giving out loans to Wike?
“The election of the governor had been annulled at the tribunal. Why is he going for loans again and for what purpose? I think I know why, but I will not disclosed the reason now.

“But I am warning the banks to stop giving out loans to Wike. If they persist, they will account for their actions”, he further warned.

The APC chairman, among others, also alleged that security situation in the state became worsened because the governor had failed to support the security agencies.

He said he was not convinced that Wike really purchased 62 open vans for the security agencies, noting that if truly he did, the governor was not giving out allowances for the maintenance of the patrol vans.
