Tengku Abdullah Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah has voiced his intention to quit his job during the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM)’s Exco meeting last night. However, the FAM Exco has asked him to put his decision on hold, and will conduct a special meeting to discuss this issue.
Speaking after the meeting, the FAM stated that they will announce further information once they sit down for the special meeting. For now, Tengku Abdullah will remain as the president of the FAM. Tengku Abdullah is under an immense pressure to quit his job after poor performances from the national team which has made a lot of people lose trust in him, especially the fans.
The national team suffered their worst defeat in history to UAE recently and the fans have urged for the president to step down, as they believe that there is no progress or development with the current administration at the FAM.
The FAM has also decided that each team will get a minimum of 40% will from the broadcasting and marketing revenue, which is 10% higher from the earlier-proposed 30%.
The issue of broadcasting rights has been voiced out by several people, especially from the royal advisor of the Malaysia Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta'zim, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
Tunku Ismail has criticised the FAM on several occasions reagarding broadcasting rights, as he believes that teams should receive a lot more than 30%.
Tengku Abdullah took over the role of FAM president from Sultan Ahmad Shah, ahead of Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim last year. (Goal)
