FIFA president Sepp Blatter Hospitalised after Suffering Small Breakdown

On Wednesday his lawyer confirmed that the 79-year-old current president of world soccer’s governing body is in hospital in Switzerland and will remain there for a number of days after what is being described as a “small breakdown” and “nervous shock.”

Blatter is due to stand down as FIFA president on Feb. 26, 2016, as the man who has been in charge for over 18 years is finally stepping away from the organization which has been riddled with corruption as it’s currently being investigated by both the Swiss and U.S. authorities. His health has been questionable in recent weeks as it had been reported that he was undergoing tests at home after feeling unwell.

The man himself, who many blame for the long-term and widespread corruption alleged among leading figures at FIFA, is currently suspended for 90 days by his own Ethics’ Committee regarding a payment made to current UEFA president and current FIFA presidential candidate, Michel Platini.
Blatter has been involved with FIFA in some capacity for over 40 years and is said to be determined to clear his name of any wrongdoing despite the health issues. He recently launched a scathing attack on Platini and many others in and around the game, while also seemingly admitted that the bidding process for both the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was a scam.

Seven candidates will battle it out early next year to succeed Blatter as the long-time leader of FIFA.
