Ekiti to Distribute 7,200 Bags of Fertilizer to Farmers

The state governor, Fayose , who disclosed this in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, said only identifiable and genuine farmers in the state, who are engaging in production would have access to the fertilizers.

The governor said, the 7,200 bags of fertilizer donated to the State by the federal government were aimed at increasing food production in the state.

He said: "The State was able to benefit from the product because of the cordial relationship between the Governor Fayose led government and the federal government.

"The lime fertilizer will improve the intake of major plant nutrients thereby leading to increased productivity.

"Distribution of the lime fertilizer will be flagged off by Governor Fayose very soon to allow farmers have access to the product.

"Farmers in the State should therefore take advantage of the fertilizer so as to enable massive food production and sustenance of the Stomach Infrastructure initiative of the governor."

Fayose added that his government is determined to increased agricultural production in the state and make it the hub of food production in the Southwest Region.

The Governor said no sector of the economy will be abandoned during his tenure as witnessed in the past, saying, “agriculture as a reliable sector that can turn around the State’s economy will be given attention and part of that efforts is free fertilizers to recognisable farmers”. He said Ekiti as purely agrarian State, with more than 60 % of the citizens are being engaged in would be given adequate attention and support for revenue earnings to the farmers and the State.
