Vice President, Namadi Sambo, Wednesday donated sets of jerseys for distribution to 95 football clubs across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto state.
He also donated 200 balls for onward distribution to the 95 football clubs in the state. Sambo made the donation during the Peoples Democratic Party campaign rally for Sokoto Central held at the Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto.
The Vice President, who spoke through his Liason Officer in charge of Sokoto state, Mr. Yohanna Allahmagani, said the gesture was meant to enhance football activities in the state.
He described the initiative as part of government's efforts to promote sporting activities at the grassroot.
"We believe that our youth should be engaged positively in sporting activities in order to enable them excel in sports.
"So, this is our modest contribution and support to local football clubs as part of efforts to boost sporting activities at the grassroots," he said.
Distributing the items to the 95 benefiting clubs at the rally, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Senator Abdallah Wali, said the gesture would go a long way in boosting sporting activities in the state. (Thisday)
