The Kebbi Government on Wednesday said it released N300 million to the state-owned University of Science and Technology in Aliero Local Government Area to secure internet services.
The Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Sani Aliyu, made this known when he addressed Principals and Directors of Education at a meeting in Birnin Kebbi.
Aliyu said the fund was to upgrade the university’s Information Communication and Technology centre as well as to provide efficient internet services in the university in line with global trend.
He said that the state government’s commitment to education was visible by its actions on increased feeding of secondary school students.
The commissioner said that the administration had also sustained the payment of National Examination Council and West African Examination Council registration fees for its students.
Aliyu further said that teachers’ basic salary had been increased by 30 per cent with an additional 27 per cent salary increase for qualified teachers.
He added that 7,000 additional teachers had been recruited between 2007 and 2015 by the present administration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was convened to sensitise school principals and directors on their roles during and after the 2015 general elections. (NAN)
