6-year-old Girl Burnt To Death In Bayelsa

A six-year old girl was yesterday burnt to death in a fire incident along the Swali area of the Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State.

The fire according to eyewitnesses also led to high degree burning of two of her brothers who are receiving treatment in a private hospital in the state capital.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that the fire which occurred at about 9pm consumed the popular shanty known as “Batcha” rendering the residents of the wooden buildings homeless.

An adjourning building made of blocks owned by a popular radio-medical practitioner known as Mama Abiodun was badly affected by the fire.

A house owner and one of the victims of the fire famous Egboje, told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the fire was triggered by the mother of the deceased when she reportedly lit a candle, put it on the carpeted floor and left for her lover’s house while her three children were sleeping.

Egboje who hails from Igbide in Isoko South local government area of Delta State said before neighbours could notice the fire, it was already too late and it took the bravery of a sympathiser who broke into the shack to rescue the other two kids.
