Katsina Guber: PDP Chairman Named As Running Mate

After days of intrigues, the Katsina State chapter of ruling PDP has settled for its chairman, Rabiu Gambo Bakori as running mate for the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Musa Nashuni.

A source at the PDP secretariat told our correspondent that Bakori’s name has been sent to the national headquarters of the party for onward submission to INEC.

Our source said key stakeholders of the party resolved and picked the party’s chairman to run for the deputy governor slot.

Bakori, a former state director of NOA who retired as permanent secretary in the office of the secretary to the state government, is seen as an alternative to the five persons initially pencilled down for the slot.

It would be recalled that the PDP stakeholders in the state recently held closed door meeting which lasted hours without agreeing on who to pick as the running mate to the party’s candidate.

Names that received wide mention as being tipped to serve as running mate included those of former commissioner of agriculture and natural resources, Musa Adamu Funtua, Kabir Barkiya and Abdulwahab Sani Stores.

Our correspondent reports that Bakori’s name was never mentioned among names pencilled for the seat, fueling speculations that his emergence may not be unconnected with high wire politics.
