NABBED: Police Arrest Kidnappers, Rescue 3 Others

The police in Delta State have arrested three alleged kidnappers and rescued three others after a long battle of gun duel around Okwe community, Asaba, at the weekend.
Reports said that the kidnap suspects were arrested on a tip- off by the police after they had allegedly kidnapped a 22- year- old lady (name withheld) who was on her to Asaba from Awka, Anambra State.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, explained that the police detectives at the B Division police station in Asaba, received information that some kidnap suspects were taking away the 22- year –old lady in a Toyota car with registration number AA 231 XX, adding that the police swung into action and engaged the suspects in a gun battle where three others who were believed to be kidnapped by the suspects were freed.

DSP Kalu disclosed that the police have been constantly combing Okwe community and its environs, following reports of criminal activities, including criminal hideouts in recent times.

She said that the suspects upon interrogation confessed to the crime, saying that they had kidnapped one Maduekwe Uchenna (f) and one Stanley Okeh, before they moved into Okwe community.

Items recovered from the suspects, DSP Kalu said, include three AK 47, and some charms made into calabash including a cash of N80, 000, adding that the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
