2 Mechanics Docked Over Alleged Theft Of Honda Jeep Worth N2.2m

Two mechanics, Taofeek Oyewole,27, and Isiaka Ayobami,36 , on Monday in Lagos appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged theft of a Honda Pilot jeep valued at N2.2million.
Oyewole of no fixed address, is facing a one-count charge of stealing, while Ayobami , also of no fixed address, is facing a charge of receiving a stolen property.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Jimah Iseghede, had told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on Jan.3 at about 12.20 p.m., at No. 30, Western Ave., now Funsho Williams Ave., in Surulere, Lagos State.
He said the complainant, one Mr Matthew Nzekwe, was introduced to the accused by his driver, who recommended that one of the accused, Oyewole could repair the jeep.
“The complainant gave one of the accused, Oyewole ,a Honda Pilot jeep with number plate- BDG 162 CC ,valued at N2.2 million to repair for him.
“Oyewole ran away to Owode, Ota in Ogun and sold the jeep to the other accused, one Ayobami, for N250,000 .

“The complainant reported the case to the police , the accused were apprehended by the police officers after they had concluded their investigation of the case,” Iseghede said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 326 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Section 326 (1) says that “any person who dishonestly receives or retains any stolen property knowing or having reason to believe the same to be stolen property or any property fraudulently obtained is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for 14 years.’’

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.F. Adeeyo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
She said that the sureties must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Adeeyo also ordered that the sureties must be residing in Lagos and show genuine means of livelihood.
She adjourned the case till Jan.16, 2015 for trial. (NAN)
