Trader Charged With Stabbing Woman on Breast

A trader, Ernest Omowole, who allegedly stabbed a woman on the breast, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a three-count charge.

Twenty-seven-year-old Omowole, a resident of No. 6, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos, is standing trial for alleged attempted murder, assault and causing grievous harm.

The prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, submitted that the accused stabbed Mrs Helen Okoro on the right breast with a broken bottle on Nov. 14, 2014 at Adidas Field, Temidire Waterside, Olodi-Apapa.

“Okoro said that she heard that the accused was harassing her son over slippers; so, she decided to intervene.

“The complainant said that Omowole, who had threatened to kill her before the incident, directed his anger on her and stabbed her with a broken bottle.

“Okoro said that the accused also stabbed her daughter with a broken bottle on her left arm while she was trying to separate them ’’ Iberedem said.

He said that the complainant and her daughter were rushed to an undisclosed hospital following injuries they sustained from Omowole act.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 171, 228 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Section 171 stipulates three years imprisonment for assault occasioning harm, while Section 243 prescribes a seven-year jail term for causing grievous harm. (Vanguard)
