Obasanjo Tore An Expired Membership Card – PDP

A fresh twist emerged to the card tearing saga of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday disclosed that the former president tore an expired party card.

This was disclosed by the national secretary of the PDP, Prof. Wale Oladipo, while receiving some student union leaders under the aegis of Student Mobilisation Network Group, (SMNG).

The PDP national secretary, stated that the card torn by Obasanjo was the one issued by the former national chairman, Abubakar Barage, and not the one issued by the current party leadership, under Dr Adamu Mu’azu.

Following purported moves to discipline him over his attacks against their Presidential Candidate, Goodluck Jonathan, Obasanjo, had supervised the shredding of his PDP membership card while hosting some members of Ogun State PDP, at his Ota residence in the state.

But Oladipo said “Baba is over eighty and my mother is around Obasanjo’s age and when you reach that age, you do things that only you can explain. Secondly, you will see that Baba did not tear our card.

“He asked somebody ostensibly to do the tearing and I am assuring you that the card that was torn was not the current PDP card. The current PDP is signed by Mu’azu and Prof Wale Oladipo. So the card he tore was a Barage card, which we were going to destroy anyway. So I think Baba started it.

He continued “lastly Baba is a very intelligent man. When Baba was helping us, he knows that a lot of people could have complained that they could have voted for PDP but Baba is there. You know when a big tree exits in a big forest, smaller trees cannot grow.

“If that big tee leaves, 10 to 20 smaller trees will grow. In politics one big tree has one vote, while twenty small trees have 20 votes. If you do the arithmetic, I am a scientist, I know that head or tail, it is a win-win situation for PDP.”

He further took a swipe at the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, saying he was not qualified to be president.

Oladipo further alluded to Buhari’s sympathy for Boko Haram sect, noting that while, Jonathan has insisted on crushing the insurgents, the APC presidential candidate, has said “he will bring Boko haam under control.”

Speaking for the students, Comrade Dino Stephens, said they came to pledge their allegiance to the PDP, adding that the political future of youths lie in the PDP.

He added that Jonathan cannot be challenged at every sphere of leadership in the country, adding that the PDP should maximise the 5000 students with PVCs in University of Abuja. (Leadership)
