Who is Meek Mill? Everything you need to know about Nicki Minaj's new fiancé

Who is Meek Mill? Everything you need to know about Nicki Minaj's new fiancé. Nicki Minaj has shocked the showbiz world after announcing she’s engaged to boyfriend of less than six months Meek Mill.

The rapper shared her news Via Twitter and showed off a dazzling heart-shaped white and yello diamond engagement ring, which is rumoured to cost no less than £500, 000.

Although it's not clear exactly how long they've been together, 32-year-old Nicki only split from ex Safaree Samuels in late 2014 after 12 years together.

The pair were first linked in December, but denied they were dating. In February she then posted a caption-less picture of Meek kissing her, seemingly confirming their romance.

Meek recently gushed about his bride-to-be to XXL magazine’s spring issue.

"Yeah, that's my baby right there. S**t real. Yeah, I tell her that. I'm like, 'I don't really hold hands, but like, I'll hold hands with you.' She know that," he said.

"Like, I don't really do things, but certain people make you do certain little stuff and it be like, 'S**t, I don't care.' They can catch me in the pictures doing anything nowadays, holding an umbrella for Nicki, you know what I'm saying? I got the girl that I wanted, not what they wanted, you know what I'm saying? What I wanted."

But how did they first meet and who is Meek Mill? Here’s everything you need to know:

Meek - whose real name is Robert Rahmeek Williams - is an American hip hop artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Meek and Nicki appear to have met when they worked together in the studio. He collaborated on two of her songs from her latest album The Pinkprint - Buy a Heart (a reason behind the heart-shaped ring, perhaps?) and Big Daddy.

Meek has one child with his ex-girlfriend Fahimah. At the end of February it all kicked off when his ex reportedly followed Nicki's ex Safaree on Instagram and liked a number of his photos.

Meek retaliated by posting her picture asking fans to follow her, before swiftly deleting it. Not letting it lie, she later hit back with a furious rant.

The 27-year-old’s career kicked off in 2003 when he performed as part of a rap group before going solo. He later signed a record deal with Rick Ross' label and released his debut studio album, titled Dreams and Nightmares, in 2012.

It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200. In October 2012 he then announced he'd set up his own label imprint and signed a number of rappers.

In a past interview with Vice magazine, he revealed his troubled upbringing.

When asked if he fought a lot when he was younger, he replied: "Coming from a bad home, you’re angry all day and s**t - you ain’t got nobody to love you in the house.

“Your mom’s on drugs, your dad’s on drugs, you might not live with anybody. You got anger built up inside of you. You wanna fight.”

In his late teens he was sent to jail for drug dealing and gun possession.

Speaking about his experience he said: “Imagine being locked in your bathroom. And God forbid you don’t got a big house with a big bathroom - I’m talking about a small bathroom.

"For a month straight, you’re in a bathroom with a bed in it, coming out one hour a day. Every night, you’re sleeping with somebody you don’t know from a can of spray paint.” (Mirror)
