Lagos Vows To Introduce Ultra-modern Intra-city Transport System

Lagos State government yesterday vowed to introduce ultra- modern transportation system for its intra-city services to reflect its status as Africa’s modern mega city.

The state’s commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, who gave the assurance at a press briefing added that the state government through the Bus Rapid Transportation (BRT) has concluded plans to inject additional 400 buses to the 154 currently running in the existing BRT corridors in the state.

Opeifa added that on the existing corridors, the BRT buses move about 180, 000 people daily saying when fully expanded, it is expected that about 400, 000 people will be moved daily by the buses.

He said, “In 2007, we inherited the introduction of the BRT system from the visionary Government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We completed the construction of Africa’s first BRT Lite corridor which is today one of the world’s most affordable BRT system on the Mile 12 – CMS through Ikorodu road, Funsho Williams Avenue and Eko Bridge measuring a total of 22 km.
