One Year Commemoration - BBOG Organises Mass Protest For The Rememberance of Chibok Girls

The #BringBackOurGirls group has organised a protest as parts of its one Week Global Action events aimed at commemorating the one year the Chibok girls were abducted from their school in Borno State.

The group which started its march at the Unity Fountain walked through the Federal Secretariat to the Police Headquarters and back to the Fountain while distributing its pamphlets, including its Citizens’ Solution to Terrorism, to the public.

Speaking during the event, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, who led the group, stated that the protest was to remind the government and Nigerians that 219 Chibok girls were still in the hands of their captors even as the days are rounding up to a year when the incident occurred.

“Today is the Day 2 of the One Week Global action. We are heading to one year of the abduction. We have continued our sit-out for 345 days. We have been standing. Today is day 360 since their abduction. In five days, it will be 365, one full calender. The theme for our one year commemoration is “365 Days On, Chibok Girls — Never To Be Forgotten” They will never be forgotten.

“We are reminding people that for 360 days the girls have not be rescued. We believe that they can be rescued. We have cities all over the world remembering these girls. The red ribbons we tie on the polls is a reminder that our Chibok girls are not back. People want to move on. But we refuse to move on,” she said.

Ezekwesili stated that the group believed that the girls as far as they are still alive will be rescued one day, which has made it continue with its advocacy even when most Nigerians have given up hope.

“Our Chibok girls are somewhere in the face of the planet. We believe that with Military effort and our collaboration with the world, we must find them. We refuse to speculate if they are alive or not. Their parents have not lost hope. They believe that the girls will be rescued and we are keeping up with this hope, that they will be brought back to their families alive,” she said.

The group, apart from distributing pamphlets to people, also beautified the polls along the road including the Eagles Square with red ribbons to remind government and the public yet again about the girls.

Recall that the Global Week of action started April 8 with a press briefing and it will culminate, April 14 with a Global march, the unveiling of the Chibok Girls Signpost and the Vigil and candlelight procession. (Leadership)
