Apapa Traffic: Tanker Drivers’ Union Urges Motorists, Residents to Be Patient

As Yuletide approaches, which has increase that gridlock in the Wharf end of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lagos, Petrol Tanker Drivers’ Union (PTD) has appealed to road users, especially motorists and residents of the area, to bear with them and exercise patience over the situation of the road. The members of the union blamed the traffic jam on the influx of petroleum tankers from every part of the country into Lagos as a result of scarcity of the petroleum products in many depots across the country.

The National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the PTD of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union (NUPENG), Comrade Adebayo Atanda, said the situation resulting in the gridlock was being worked on by the drivers’ union in conjunction with LASTMA officials and other traffic agencies.

He said the tankers had resorted to coming to Lagos to avoid the shortage of the product in other parts of the country, adding that the scarcity of the products is further compounded by the festive period.

Atanda said the PTD National Chairman, Comrade Sulaimon Akanni Oladiti, has directed all the zonal officers headed by Comrade Razaq Akanbi to be on ground to mitigate the effect of the influx of the tankers on the roads.

He added that the Akanbi-led task force was working round the clock and would be collaborating with LASTMA to ease the traffic jam in the area as soon as possible.
“We are therefore assuring all road users, motorists and residents of the area that the situation would soon be brought under control,” Atanda promised.
