Roberto Firmino Could Miss Liverpools' Europa League Clash Against Borussia Dortmund

Roberto Firmino is a major doubt for the Liverpool clash against Dortmund  on Thursday as the attacker is yet to recover from a hamstring injury he suffered during their last-16 second-leg tie against Manchester United on 17 March. The former Hoffenheim star had to pull out of the Brazil squad due to the injury and his absence will be a big blow as Jugen Klopp gets ready to face his former club.

The Brazil international has been Liverpool's in-form player since the turn of the year and had notched up seven goals and provided four assists in his last eight league appearances before suffering his injury. His return will be key for Liverpool' prospects of progressing in the Europa League and their battle to secure a top six finish in the Premier League.

 

According to the Guardian, Firmino is a doubt for the trip to Germany as he is yet to recover, but will be given every chance by the manager to be a part of the travelling party and will be afforded a late fitness test before the team departs England on Wednesday. He failed a fitness test ahead of their recent 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, and it is unlikely that he will be risked by the manager if not fully fit.

Firmino, meanwhile, is one of five Liverpool players, who are in danger of missing the second-leg against Dortmund if they get booked on Thursday at the Signal Iduna Park stadium. Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne and Alberto Moreno are the other four players who have already picked up two yellow cards in the competition thus far.

 

The quartet's absence in the return leg will heavily weaken Klopp's team, and this could prompt the manager to rethink his team selection ahead of the game.
