Operational Licence: FG Extends Deadline For Private Jet Owners

The federal government through the Aviation Ministry has extended the earlier deadline to revoke the operational licence of foreign privately-owned aircraft operating commercial charter to 90 days.

The minister of aviation, Osita Chidoka, made this known in Abuja yesterday, when stakeholders in the aviation sector under the auspices of Aircraft Operators Association of Nigeria (AOAN) were on a courtesy visit to his office.

The minister had said that as from 1st March, all foreign registered private category aircraft listed on the OpSpec Part G of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) must be removed from the status by NCAA while their operations would be grounded until NCAA approves an alternative operational status for the aircraft.

The permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Mohammed Abass, who spoke on behalf of the minister, said no private jet would be allowed to operate without authorisation within the extended period.

A statement signed by the principal information officer in the ministry, Iyogun Asobumeh Sunday and made available to LEADERSHIP revealed that following the earlier directive to revoke the operational licence, members of AOAN decided to visit the minister.

In his address, the secretary general of AOAN, Capt. Mohammed Joji commended the government for extending the deadline, adding that defaulters who fail to regularise their documents within the period of grace would be heavily sanctioned.

He debunked claims that the activities of privately-owned aircraft operators were responsible for a reduction in government revenue, saying that they generate more revenue for the government. (Leadership)
