Adamawa, Yobe Cleared Of Boko Haram – DHQ

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said that Borno State is the only state where Boko Haram insurgents can be found as troops have cleared Adamawa and Yobe states of any trace of the insurgents. This is coming barely two weeks to the general elections.

In a tweet yesterday, the DHQ said Yobe State, one of the three states under state of emergency due to insurgency in the region, had completely been cleared of insurgents by yesterday morning.

The clearing of Yobe State makes it the second state after Adamawa from which the military has successfully flushed out the terrorists.

“Troops have this morning completed clearing terrorists from Goniri in Yobe State,” the DHQ tweeted.

The military had on Friday announced the discovery of a bomb-making factory in Yobe State where the insurgents were manufacturing a variety of bombs.

Defence spokesperson, Major General Chris Olukolade, disclosed that a cordon-and-search operation had led to discovery of the factory located in a fertilizer firm, adding that the location was used for the production of all kinds of IEDs.

Troops recapture Bama
Nigerian troops have finally succeeded in routing terrorists from Bama, the second largest town in Borno State.

This was revealed in a statement released by defence spokesman, Maj-Gen Chris Olukolade yesterday in Abuja.

He said: “The mission which was accomplished with massive casualty inflicted on the terrorists before the remnant finally fled the town lasted days of careful manoeuvre and efforts to scale series of obstacles and land mines planted by terrorists who have occupied the town for months.

“The Chadian partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force have been mandated to undertake a pursuit of the terrorists who are believed to be heading for the borders after being dislodged from Bama.” (Leadership)
