Access Bank Partners US Govt on Women Empowerment

Access Bank Plc said it has entered into partnership with the United States Embassy in Nigeria to empower Nigerian women on how to become information technology compliant. 

Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Access Bank, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, disclosed this at a forum tagged: “Women’s History Month Program,” as part of the bank’s commemoration of the International Women’s Day in Lagos on Thursday.

Wigwe assured participants at the forum that the bank truly value women, adding that it would continue to inspire them in playing pivotal roles in the country’s development.
According to him, as part of its capacity development programme, Access Bank would in the next 12 months train several women.

He stressed that the ‘W’ initiative, a scheme introduced by the bank for women, is about empowering, inspiring and connecting women.

“The bank and the public relations department of the US Consulate want to celebrate women in the next three days in commemoration of the International Women’s Day.

“The role of women in our environment whether as mothers, wives, sisters or professional women is extremely important. In that role you will see several conflicts and most times those roles are all put together, though she is a wife, she is also mother and a professional, hence they have multi-tasks upon them. So the role of IT in their lives cannot be under-estimated.

“In developing market, the role of IT is needed to enable women to be heard in the world is necessary. When you empower a woman you empower a society, hence there is no other way than empowering them to be come IT complaints.

On his part, United States’ Ambassador to Nigeria, Jeffery Hawkins who commended Nigeria for having women representatives at the helm of affairs in corporate organisations. He however noted that huge gap exists in the nation’s political space.

Also, the Public Diplomacy Officer, US Consulate-General, Lagos, Rhonda Watson stated that women has more role to play in the liberation of the society; development growth, stability, politics and are agent of peace. (Leadership)
