Former Arsenal Defender Emmanuel Eboue Banned from Football for a Year

Sunderland defender Emmanuel Eboue has been banned for 12 months for failing to pay a former agent money owed. The ex-Arsenal player, 32, only signed for the Black Cats earlier this month and has since been working on his fitness. But just as he was in line to finally make his debut this weekend against West Brom, Eboue has been given a year-long ban.

The 32-year-old had previously been ordered by the single judge of the Fifa Players’ Status Committee to pay Boisseau an amount owed to him, but opted to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

FIFA has dished out the punishment although says it will remove it if the Ivory Coast man pays off the debt. Despite the chance to remove the band, Sunderland have taken the decision to terminate Eboue’s contract with immediate effect.

Sunderland statement regarding Emmanuel Eboue Reads Below

Sunderland AFC has been advised by the Football Association that Emmanuel Eboue has been placed under an immediate suspension from football and all football-related activity for a period of one year, by FIFA.

The suspension relates to a monetary dispute between the player and a former agent, which precedes his time at Sunderland AFC and was not something that the club was made aware of by the player.

Eboue signed a contract with Sunderland AFC until the end of the current season and the club has therefore given notice of its intention to terminate the contract. The player has two weeks in which to appeal this decision.
