Gary Neville has been sacked as Valencia manager after only four months in charge of the La Liga outfit. The Manchester United legend was a surprise choice to take over from Nuno Espirito Santo back in December and joined up with his brother Phil Neville who was already assistant manager at the club.
Neville’s first serious criticism came after a dismal 7-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg in February, with many supporters calling for the 41-year-old’s head.
Neville, who will continue his role as England assistant manager going into Euro 2016, released a statement following the decision.
Gary Neville statement
‘I want to thank the Valencia Football Club, the fans, the coaching staff, workers and players.‘I would have liked to continue the work I started, but I understand that we are in a business that is based on the results and in 28 games-ten wins, seven draws and 11 defeats they have not been at the level that I demand that requires me and this club.’
