The Code of Conduct Tribunal has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of six Development Council Chairmen in Adamawa State for their failure to honour its summons. The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, gave the order in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the spokesman of the tribunal, Mr Ibrahim Al-hassan.
Umar also ordered that the six accused persons be arraigned in court on July 16 to face their trials.
The order followed an application by the counsel to the accused, Mr Sunday Sotikere, to withdraw services
to his clients, which the tribunal granted.
“Under Rule 29 of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners, the accused persons were not diligent enough in settling their brief, as such, I am no longer interested in representing them,” Sotikere was quoted as saying in the statement.
The accused are Aliyu Gaya, Chairman, Gaya/ Gayaha Development Area, Sule Duhu, Chairman, Shuwa Development Area, and Ishiyaku Kawunyara, Chairman,Yola West Development Area.
Others are Ahmad Yaro, Chairman Nassarawo/Jereng Development Area, Irimiya Levi, Chairman, Borrong Development Area and Denis Kakaba, Chairman, Bidoma Development Area.
The AttorneyGeneral of the Federation had arraigned the accused persons on Oct. 23, 2012, before the tribunal for failure to declare their assets. (NAN)
