A teenager and a minor have been arrested by Police detectives in Ogun State for allegedly kidnapping a nine-month-old baby. Detectives attached to Ilese Division, Ijebu Ode, of the command arrested Racheal John, 19 and Joy Atunramu 9 of Egbe Street, Ijebu Ode for the incident. The nine-month-old baby belongs to one of the suspects’ mother’s neighbour at Old Tollgate, Ijebu Ode where the suspects carried out the crime. According to the spokesperson of the Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, the police were informed of the incident by the mother of the baby on Wednesday when the mother noticed that the suspects had taken away her baby. “Then police detectives immediately swung into action and traced the suspect to Ogbere, Ijebu area, on a tip off, where she was arrested,” Adejobi said.
It was gathered that the prime suspect, Rachael John had a conflict with the mother of the baby sometime before the baby was stolen. She allegedly vowed via a written letter to deal with the mother of the baby.
Though initially, the mother didn’t know who actually stole the baby, but neighbours and some eye witnesses, who saw the suspect with the baby, said it was Atunramu, the nine year old accomplice that took the baby on the instruction of Rachael John.
It was also gathered that the suspect allegedly demanded for the sum of two million naira ransom before the release of the baby.
According to Adejobi, “the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Val Ntomchukwu, has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated without delay and necessary action be taken for justice to prevail in the case.
