Premier League star Jake Livermore has tested positive for cocaine. Hull City and England midfielder Livermore, 25, failed a random drugs test following his team's 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace last month. The £8million player, who made one appearance for England in 2012, could be banned from football for up to two years, according to FA rules. FA rules on 'social drugs' such as cocaine state: 'FA Anti-Doping Regulations prohibit players from taking social drugs (such as cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy) at all times.
'If you take social drugs recreationally you will face a suspension from football of up to six months, but if you are tested after a match and a social drug is detected, you could face a two year suspension.
'It's when the drug is detected, not when you took it that counts.'
UK Anti-Doping, responsible for drug testing football players, said the FA would decide what sporting punishment Livermore would face.
Livermore, who was born in Enfield, north London, started his career at Tottenham Hotspur, where he played for six years.
He joined Hull permanently in 2014 after a loan spell at the club, signing for a club record fee of £8million.
The midfielder made his first only appearance for England in 2012, coming on as a second-half substitute in a friendly against England.
Hull City will release a statement later this afternoon.
The FA and Premier League did not comment.
