A Lagos Island Customary Court on Tuesday dissolved a loveless seven-year-old marriage, citing constant battering and assault. The court, presided over by Chief J.O. Ogunmola, put asunder the marriage between Abiodun Samuel, 46, and her estranged wife, Omolara, 30, for irreconcilable differences and lack of love.
The president advised the duo to maintain peace even after the dissolution of the union that was blessed with two children.
Ogunmola ordered the respondent (the husband) to pay the woman N5,000 the children’s upkeep and another N10, 000 as the children’s transport fare to school.
“The children should also remain with their mother as agreed by both parties.”
Earlier, the petitioner, Omolara had accused her husband, Abiodun, of physically assaulting her.
“There is no love between us again; the man gives me constant beating,’’ Omolara, 30, and businesswoman, told the court.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case was brought before the court on Dec. 15, 2014.
In his defence, Samuel, 46, and an unemployed, told the court that he was no longer interested in the marriage.
“My wife does not accord me respect again,’’ he said.
He, however, denied beating and that he had been taking care of the family with his meager earnings. (NAN)
