PDP Cautions Tompolo, Dokubo, Others Over Inciting Statements

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned some ex-militants including Government Ekpemupolo popularly called Tompolo, leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Asari Dokubo as well as other party members and supporters against making inciting statements ahead of the general elections.

The party also declared that based on its feedback and analysis from the campaigns it has done so far, the party will score nothing less than 64 percent votes if elections are conducted today.

The national publicity secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, while reacting to comments by some militants that Nigeria will split if the President Goodluck Jonathan does not win, pleaded for caution but stressed that President Goodluck Jonathan belongs to all Nigerians and not a section of the country.

He noted that while the party appreciates the overwhelming support shown to President Goodluck Jonathan, it was equally important for them to be mindful of not making comments that go contrary to the campaign narrative of the President and the party.

Former minister of defence, Gen. T Y Danjuma had called on the federal government to arrest the ex-militants for making provocative statements about the unity of the country should President Jonathan loose the presidential election.

But Metuh said “We have noted that while we are not responsible for the utterances, statements of some of our supporters, groups and individuals, we are cautioning them to be mindful of what they say. Ours is a national party. We cover all zones, states and local government. No individual, group or zone owns our party. And being a national party we caution our members to be mindful of the zeal they exhibit. President Goodluck Jonathan could even be more loved in Anambra or Zamfara states than in Ijaw area. He could even have more support and vote from Adamawa than in Ijaw and to buttress this point President Jonathan in a campaign on Thursday informed all that Adamawa people gave him twice the votes he got from Bayelsa. So the president of Nigeria is not president of Bayelas or Ijaw but a president of Nigeria and he has the support of the entire country.”

Prodded further on the issue he added “We have ended our statement by cautioning our members to be cautious of their statements. We are not security agencies an we will not delve into such sensitive issues. We don’t think such will be repeated by those individuals.” Leadership
