The 21-year-old has agreed his long-awaited move to Old Trafford subject to a medical after the Red Devils saw off late interest from bitter rivals Liverpool. Manchester United have reached an agreement with PSV for the summer transfer of Memphis Depay.
After an impressive World Cup, where Memphis Depay introduced himself to the biggest stage, he has had a wonderful season at PSV. All year long he showed his readiness to join a top European club and currently leads the Eredivisie scoring charts 21 goals. He is, simply, too good for the league and displays as much every week. Together with Georginio Wijnaldum, Depay has made PSV champions.
Depay's drive and determination is key to his progress. The 21-year-old is a 'training beast' who wants to become a better player every day. He's young and hungry, the type of player Louis van Gaal likes to work with.
Van Gaal and Depay built a strong relationship during last summer's World Cup so the forward knows the way the United coach works, and is a big fan. They thrived with Netherlands and will do at Old Trafford.
Last summer Goal revealed that Louis van Gaal had advised Depay to remain in the Netherlands for one more season before moving to England - a decision that led to the 21-year-old claiming the Eredivisie title.
In March Goal reported that Depay had told PSV he wanted to join United and despite late interest from bitter rivals Liverpool, a deal thought to be worth around £22.3 million has now been reached for the winger to move to Old Trafford subject to a medical.
"We are very proud of this upcoming transfer, which happened very quickly," said PSV's technical manager Marcel Brands.
"Memphis has gone through all the teams of the PSV youth academy and has played an important part in winning the title this year. He's a wonderful exponent of our training and will make a nice transition to a magnificent club in a beautiful competition.
"Football-wise, we lose obviously a fantastic player, which is of great value to the team. But PSV grants him this wonderful step." (Goal)
