Robbers Snatch N1.3m From Rep Hon. Gogo Bright, Killed Driver.

he Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected armed robbers who robbed a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Gogo Bright, killed his driver and dispossessed him of N1.3 million in Port Harcourt.

Bright, who is the member representing Okrika/Ogu/Bolo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, was in company of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Okrika Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Datorudimabo Adams, and his driver, who is also a former councillor in Okrika local government area, Hon Hope George, when the hoodlums attacked them, killing George in the process.

Commissioner for Police in the state, Mr. Dan Bature, who spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, shortly after visiting Bright in his residence, said the hoodlums trailed the federal lawmaker from a bank along Olu Obasanjo Road in the state capital where he had gone to withdraw the money, and finally blocked his vehicle near Saint John’s Bust-Stop, along Aba Road, where they killed his driver and robbed him.

Bature, who ruled out any political undertone in the attack on the federal lawmaker, said the police had begun a manhunt for the hoodlums.

The leadership of PDP in the state had on Saturday insisted that the attack on its members, including the killing of Friday Mbadee Onura at Eleme were carried out by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), acting on the instructions of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.
