PROTEST: Businesses Shut Down Over Killing Of Bizman

A build-up of anger and resentment has continued to swell over the abduction and killing of a businessman in Makurdi, Benue State, whose his corpse was dumped on the street few days after the kidnapping took place.

The deceased, Edwin Okechwukwu, was managing director of Our Choice Table Water in Makurdi.

Several shops and supermarkets in the agrarian state capital were not opened for business since the ugly incident happened last Friday.

The strange abduction and killing of the business tycoon has not just thrown his associates into a state of agitated confusion but many traders in the town are apparently trying to figure out what must have led to the situation.

Because of the dumping of the man’s corpse on the street few days ago, various Igbo community associations have been convening series of secret meetings to unravel the cause of death and fish out perpetrators of the heinous act.

A source at the family residence of the deceased, who preferred anonymity, revealed that “family members and associates made serious arrangements to pay the ransom demanded by the kidnappers before our brother was killed and his lifeless body dumped on the street.” (Leadership)
