Judiciary Workers Continue Strike As FG Shifts Meeting To January 17

The meeting at the instance of Minister of Labour and Productivity and other stakeholders to resolve the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on wednesday ended in deadlock as both parties failed to agree on the bone of contention.

A source at the meeting said that all stakeholders, including Accountant General of the Federation, were in attendance. The striking workers insisted on the implementation of order of the Federal High Court, Abuja, hence the meeting was rescheduled for January 17, 2015.

According to the source, the Accountant General of the Federation exonerated himself and the Ministry of Finance of withholding allocations meant for various states’ judiciary workers, but blamed the situation on the state governors who insisted that their monies could not be deducted.

He said the workers insisted that unless the monies were deducted according to the court order, the strike would continue until the financial and independence of the judiciary arm of government was ensured.

Speaking with journalists on the development, national president of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu said the union only attended the meeting as a sign of respect and not to dialogue over the ongoing strike. (Leadership)
