Bring Back Our Girls’ Rescue: Ezekwesili Faults Jonathan’s Leadership

Former Minister of Education, Dr. (Mrs) Oby Ezekwesili, has stated that the failure of President Goodluck Jonathan to rescue the over 200 Chibok girls, who were abducted by Boko Haram gunmen in April 2014 has shown how unfit he is as a leader.

Ezekwesili, who is one of the leaders of #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group expressed concern over the increasing number of female suicide bombers in Nigeria, stressing that the development points to the failed security index of the nation.

She however added that she will continue to fight for the freedom of the girls even in the face of blackmail, intimidation and threat to her group by the federal government.

While speaking on the situation in France where about 90, 000 police officers were deployed to tackle about four terrorists who had attacked the Charlie Hebdo, the group stated that if the government had taken desisive step after the abduction of the Chibok girls, the world would have stood by the country the way it had stood with France.

“It is the way the president has behaved that other world leaders have not identified with our situation. If the government has taken a decisive step and took care of the problem after the Chibok girls’ abduction, the world would have stood by us.

“The world would be wondering why the issue of Chibok girls and insurgencey have not be taken care off in the country,” it said.

The group lamented that so many people have been killed by the insurgency while many more were being killed for lack of food and shelter as they had to sleep in the cold weather.

“So many people are trapped with no food. Another problem is shelter. Most of them are sleeping outside. Some have died because of cold. People are suffering, yet nothing has been done. We are in serious humanitarian crises in the Northeast,” it said.(Leadership)
