Mariah Carey and James Packer are still in the honeymoon phase! The pop star, 45, and her billionaire boyfriend, 48, cozied up to each other on the red carpet at the grand opening of his new Studio City casino in Macau, China on Tuesday. The "Emotions" singer stunned in a plunging black gown with crisscrossed ties across her cleavage as the Australian businessman looked dapper in a black tuxedo. 

 

We haven't seen these two at a public event since they made their red carpet debut at "The Intern" premiere last month -- so this was a real treat! Pogba Could Become a Barcelona's Player - Raiola

The French playmaker was linked to the Spanish giant through out the summer and the midfield sensation has again been linked with a move to the Spanish champions, this time by his agent, who says Pogba would cost over £70 million. Paul Pogba’s agent sees no reason why the midfielder couldn’t join Barcelona next summer but admits Juventus would demand a huge fee.

Mino Raiola, who oversees the contract negotiations of the France international, reopened speculation that Pogba could be on his way to La Liga in the future but has ruled out a potential January transfer switch. Speaking to Radio Montecarlo, the 47-year-old representative believes a move is being considered by Luis Enrique.

Barcelona Injuries Mount - Douglas to miss Real Madrid

Barcelona's right back, Douglas is set to Barcelona's El Clasico fixture against Real Madrid after being sidelined for up to two months with a bone fracture in his right foot. The right-back suffered the setback during the Catalans' 0-0 Copa del Rey draw with Villanovense on Wednesday, in what was his first start for the club since he suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season. 

 

The Brazilian was found to have fractured the scaphoid bone in his foot and looks set to miss much of November and December - including Barcelona's crucial trip to face los Blancos at the Bernabeu.

Ivory Coast Revels in Ouattara's Landslide Election Victory

Ivorian president Alassane Ouattara has won a second term in office. He received 83 percent of votes Sunday according to official results announced overnight. His win doesn't come as a surprise and Ivorians are reveling in the calm. Cars honking, people rushing to work, vendors selling coffee by the side of the road -- the streets of Abidjan look just like any other day just a few hours after results were announced.

And this simple fact is for Tonian Amalaman a reason to rejoice. He said, "it doesn't matter who won. I am happy to be able to walk down the street and see that there is no violence."

A nearby opposition supporter agreed. "I am not a supporter of Ouattara," she said. "But I must admit that I'm happy because I was fearing the announcement of the result. I didn't want any violence. But everything went well, and I hope it will last because you need peace if you want a country to develop. President Ouattara won a landslide victory. Second place candidate, Pascal Affi N'Guessan, got just nine percent of the vote. 

No End in Sight for South Africa Student Protests

Two weeks after South African students launched protests over proposed university fee hikes — and just days after winning a major concession from the president — the demonstrations that rocked South Africa show no signs of stopping. Recent protests have not seen the intensity of those last week, which prompted clashes with police. Cape Town officers arrested 29 students after a heated protest, while Pretoria police fired tear gas on protesters who attempted to force their way into negotiations between students and elected officials.

Students at Johannesburg’s University of the Witwatersrand — site of the first protests that launched this national phenomenon — said Monday they had no intention of stopping until they reached their greater goal of economic equality. By Tuesday the flame had quite literally continued to burn as university officials extinguished several campus fires started “deliberately and simultaneously.” The university's student council says it want leaders to address issues like free education, institutional autonomy and racism.

President Mohammadu in New Delhi warned Indians against shipping fake and sub-standard foods and medicines to Nigeria, saying his government would not tolerate such act. The president gave the warning in an interactive session with Chief Executives of Indian companies with interests in Nigeria. He also assured that Nigeria’s economy was doing well despite the fall in oil prices, expressing hope that with its abundance of human and material resources, the Nigerian economy does not have to suffer unduly from low oil prices, despite its severe impact on government revenues. He stated that his administration remains fully committed to maintaining macro-economic stability and improving investor confidence in Nigeria.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK) Students Produce Mini Bus

The journey into car manufacturing in the university started last year, when a group of five students from Department of Mechanical Engineering of the university produced a Formula 1 car called AutoZIK. The seven students include Ezeigwe Chitoo, Obinani Victor, Ezeanolue Ifeanyi, Okoro Chinaza, Ominigbo Fidelis, Nwobodo Nnamdi and Ogbu Thaddeus. They were supervised by the Head of the department, Dr. C.H. Achebe. South East Voice learned that the group, which is known as ‘AUTOZIK II,’ spent over five months constructing the mini bus for shuttles within and around the university with locally sourced materials.

Like the popular saying, “What a man can do, a woman can do even better,” the conspicuous presence of a female, ‘Okoro Chinaza’ in the team spoke volumes. On how she was able to surmount the challenges as the only female in the midst of her male counterparts with respect to the stress associated with such herculean tasks, she said: “I had always been in their midst right from my first year in school, so it was not really a big deal.”

World Health Organization (WHO) Reveals 116 Causes of CANCER - Tobacco Comes Top on The List

WHO revealed processed meat is as big a cancer threat as cigarettes. Experts classed bacon, salami and smoked ham as being carcinogenic Here we reveal the 115 things also in the same category - group one, those which are deemed to cause cancer includes smoking, sunbeds, arsenic and asbestos as well as hepatitis B and C, HIV the Epstein-Barr virus and working as a painter. Bacon, burgers and sausages were this week deemed to be as big a cancer threat as cigarettes, according to global health chiefs.

The warning saw processed meat added to the list of items classified as carcingogenic to humans by the World Health Organisation. It means dietary favourites, including salami, chorizo and smoked ham, rank alongside arsenic and asbestos, when it comes to the potential cancer risk. Officials said just 50g of processed meat a day – less than one sausage – increases the risk of bowel cancer by almost a fifth. The report also classified red meat as 'probably carcinogenic' – one rank below – but added that it had some nutritional benefits. Experts are now urging the public to avoid processed meat where possible and to have a bean salad for lunch rather than a BLT.

Ebola Caused Meningitis in Nurse Pauline Cafferkey

A Scottish nurse who contracted Ebola while working in West Africa is recovering well after the virus caused her to develop meningitis. Pauline Cafferkey, 39, was readmitted to an isolation unit at the Royal Free Hospital in London earlier this month after suffering an apparent relapse. Health officials confirmed she had been diagnosed with meningitis caused by Ebola and had a "long recovery ahead". Ms Cafferkey, from South Lanarkshire, contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone. Dr Michael Jacobs, who is treating Ms Cafferkey at the Royal Free Hospital in London, said: "Pauline has become unwell by meningitis caused by the Ebola virus.

Scientists Have Discovered a Gene That Puts Women at Higher Risk of Heart Disease

Scientists have identified a gene that puts women at higher risk of heart disease, an early study suggests. The work showed that women who had a particular version of the BCAR1 gene were more likely than other women to have heart attacks and strokes. In contrast, men who had the gene were not at increased risk. Researchers say this adds to mounting evidence that there are differences in how men and women experience heart disease. 

 

Thicker arteries
In the study, published in the journal, Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics, researchers from University College London pooled data from five European research projects, involving nearly 4,000 men and women. Comparing their genes, the health of their blood vessels and the thickness of key arteries, scientists pinpointed a version of a gene that was linked to a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes and diseased blood vessels in women. Though they still have work to do to fully understand the link, researchers believe the gene - when combined with a woman's naturally occurring oestrogen - could lead to an increased risk of heart disease.

Processed Meats Leads to Cancer - WHO

Processed meats - such as bacon, sausages and ham - do cause cancer, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Its report said 50g of processed meat a day - less than two slices of bacon - increased the chance of developing colorectal cancer by 18%. Meanwhile, it said red meats were "probably carcinogenic" but there was limited evidence. WHO did stress that meat also had health benefits.  Cancer Research UK said this was a reason to cut down rather than give up red and processed meats. And added that an occasional bacon sandwich would do little harm. 

What is processed meat?

Processed meat has been modified to either extend its shelf life or change the taste and the main methods are smoking, curing, or adding salt or preservatives. Simply putting beef through a mincer does not mean the resulting mince is "processed" unless it is modified further. Processed meat includes bacon, sausages, hot dogs, salami, corned beef, beef jerky and ham as well as canned meat and meat-based sauces.  It is the chemicals involved in the processing which could be increasing the risk of cancer. High temperature cooking, such as on a barbeque, can also create carcinogenic chemicals.

S'Court Dismisses Wike's Appeal Challenging Relocation of Tribunal to Abuja

 

The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the decision of the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, in relocating the Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal to Abuja on grounds of alleged  insecurity in Rivers State. The tribunal, which sat in Abuja, had last Saturday nullified the April 11 governorship election that produced Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) as governor  and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election within 90 days. At the preliminary stage, Wike had challenged the tribunal's jurisdiction to sit outside Rivers State. The tribunal dismissed his objection and a further appeal to the Court of Appeal was also dismissed.

He consequently appealed t‎o the Supreme Court. Ruling on the appeal yesterday, a full panel of the apex court unanimously dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit. Reading the lead judgement, Justice Amiru Sanusi held that evidence abound that there were security challenges prevailing in Rivers state as at the time the panel was constituted. He further held that the court could not  be bound by its earlier  decision in Ibori's case which was cited by the appellant.

Jose Mourinho has been charged by the Football Association (FA) for misconduct during Chelsea's Premier League clash with West Ham. Coach Silvino Louro has also been charged with the same offence while both clubs face accusations of failing to control their players. "Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct in relation to his language and/or behaviour towards the match officials in or around the dressing room area at half-time," read an FA statement. "Chelsea coach Silvino Louro has also been charged with misconduct in relation to his behaviour which led to his 45th minute dismissal from the technical area. "West Ham have been charged for failing to control their players in the 44th minute of the game and Chelsea have also been charged with the same offence for an alleged breach in the 45th minute of the game. "All parties have until 6pm on Thursday 29 October 2015 to reply."
